A voice at the table

Irvine Central Bark is closing after 24 years. Many dogs and their human companions have visited this Irvine legacy of a dog park. With 2.9 acres of space, a big and little side, lights, shade, benches, water, two entrances and two exits, it set the benchmark in Orange County for dog parks in 2000.

With the arrival of change comes the need for the community of dog park visitors to formalize our group and found a dog park association in order to have a voice in the future of our dog parks. Yes, I said parks (plural). Irvine has had a plan for 5 years to not only move Central Bark but to add three more dog parks in Irvine. The demand for more parks has increased with the increase in numbers of dogs we have seen since 2020. The surrounding cities have begun to catch up and some have even passed Irvine in numbers of dog parks. One example is Laguna Beach which just opened a new park at Moulton Meadows bringing its total to two off-leash dog parks.
